First Day of Fifth Grade

I am thrilled to be teaching 5th grade at Nuckols Farm Elementary this year! I am excited to begin the school year this week. I want to ask my class: What was your favorite thing about your first day back to school?

Pictures of our Sales Bazaar

Students recently participated in a financial simulation called Bizworld in which they worked as teams to create friendship bracelet companies that would compete in a sales bazaar. They incorporated with the state, raised capital through a venture capitalist (our principal Mrs. Rose) and marketed and manufactured various products including bracelets, necklaces, and keychains.

Here are some pictures of the "sales bazaar," where kindergarten and 1st grade students were invited to spend "Bizbucks" on products from the company they chose.

Each company sold their bracelets to kindergarten and 1st graders, who were give $7 Bizbucks to spend at the bazaar.

This picture shows the VP of manufacturing from the company "Buddies Bling" and the VC, Mrs. Rose, wearing a prototype of their companies' special edition bracelet called Springtime Sensation, which was a best-seller at the bazaar!

After each group calculated their profit using the profit equation Revenue-Expenses = Profit (or loss), we worked through a financial statement to calculate each companies worth.

Bizworld

Students in 4th and 5th grade have been working in groups to create friendship bracelet companies over the last few weeks. Students have planned, designed, manufactured, marketed, and sold bracelets to other students in a business simulation. We have learned quite a bit about how businesses work by looking at how they plan for expenses, revenues, and try to make a profit. Students have visited a "venture capitalist" (our principal Mrs. Rose) and have also visited "the bank."

I would like students to comment on what they have learned through this business simulation:
